Movie Journaling: The Gentlemen!

Movie Journaling: The Gentlemen

Before the World Imploded

I’m doing some movie journaling of The Gentlemen! Now, this was actually the last film I saw in a movie theater, back on January 24, 2022, before the world imploded. I’ve been meaning to document The Gentlemen in my movie journal since I watched it the first time but kept putting it off. Well, two years later I’m finally getting to it! By now I’ve seen this movie ad nauseum and I just love it! I even saved my ticket and receipt to add in. Below is my process video creating this spread for The Gentlemen. I’m actually glad I waited so long because it came out perfect!

The Last Ten Days: Gratitude Documented 2019!

The Last Ten Days

The last ten days of this series is done! I cannot believe I completed this project! I really enjoyed switching up my routine when it comes to my Gratitude Journaling. But it has also given me an appreciation for the way that I usually record and journal my Gratitude. This project has definitely pushed my creativity to another level and for that I am thankful!

21 and 22

Days 21 and 22 feature the themes Edify and Prayer. I absolutely love the collaging on these pages.
The Last Ten Days

Days 23 and 24

I was stumped with these pages so I did a bit of prep. Thankfully that kicked my ideas into high gear and I came out with this spread for Edify and Love.
The Last Ten Days

Days 25 and 26

For themes of Compassion and Generosity, all I thought was that I wanted to do a black and white spread. Very pleased with the end result!
Days 25 and 26

Days 27 and 28

Admittedly the struggle was real with these pages. Thankfully I managed to produce a spread I’m cool with.
Protection and Family

Days 29 & 30

The last two days! These pages, featuring the themes of Restoration and Friendship, were pretty simple but lovely.
Restoration and Friendship

Yay! Gratitude Documented 2019 is complete! I’m proud of myself for getting the whole project done and not falling behind. I absolutely enjoyed this project and most likely will be participating next year as well. Just in one short month I can track my growth and pushed the limits of my creativity. And for that, I will always be grateful. For my other posts on Gratitude Documented you can check my links here, here, and here. Tartan Cloth Commonplace Notebook!

Waverly Scotland Tartan Cloth Commonplace Notebook!

Tartan Commonplace Notebook
You guys! Last week when I was searching to get more historical information on Commonplace Books, I ran across a Tartan cloth pocket notebook on Amazon. I am obsessed and in love with the Outlander series. So much so that I definitely want to plan a trip to Scotland one day. I saw that they had different Tartan Cloth Notebook designs and just had to have THIS ONE! This cloth is the Isle of Skye design and I am in love with the purple!  I don’t know why I never considered that there were professionally crafted books made specifically for this purpose.

It arrived with a little card about the history of Tartans and the Isle of Skye. Also with a little booklet with information on what a commonplace notebook is. I will leave the scans of those below!

Starting a Commonplace Book!

I am starting a Commonplace Book!

Starting a Commonplace Book!

I am starting a commonplace book and it has been a long time coming. For quite a while now I’ve wanted to start a commonplace book so that I might have a central place to store all of the quotes, advice, anecdotes, snippets, and profound lyrics that I collect haphazardly throughout my days. But before I get too much into that why don’t we discuss just what a commonplace book is?

What Exactly is a Commonplace Book?

According to dictionary.com, a commonplace book is, “a book in which noteworthy quotations, comments, etc., are written.” Through my research, I’ve learned that a commonplace book has been used throughout the ages. Many well known historical figures kept commonplace books. The famous Greek Marcus Aurealis, known for the stoicism movement, kept a commonplace book. It eventually became the basis for his famous meditations. Other historical figures like Leonardo Da Vinci and author Dante also kept commonplace books. Commonplace books were quite popular during the time of the Rennasaince.

A commonplace book is meant to store information from recipes to quotes, advice, notes, inspired thoughts, letters, and poems. It is essentially a scrapbook of wisdom and knowledge for the curator of information. Readers, writers, and people from all walks of life have and do keep commonplace books. Perhaps you keep a commonplace book and just weren’t familiar with the term?

Commonplace Book: A New Term for an Old Thought

As I stated before I’ve wanted to start a commonplace book for some time now. It wasn’t until recently that I actually learned the term for what I had been contemplating for months, perhaps years now. I watched a video I watched on YouTube that introduced the term to me. My heart jumped and shouted, that’s it! That’s exactly what want to do! So I then put the term into the YouTube search bar and found many more videos on it. The original I watched is by Jordan Clark and the other I liked very much is by the Reset Girl. Both have very different styles of storing their information.  I’m drawn to both. While one is simplistic, the other is very decorative. I may try both in my book and see what works best for me.

My Commonplace Book Decorated

As it is, I’m just happy I’m finally starting a commonplace book! To check out my process on how I decorate the cover of my book and my first entry, click or watch the video below!  It’s slightly similar to the lyric journal I started.  But my commonplace book will include much more than just lyrics. If you’ve started a commonplace book yourself, please let me know in the comments!  What sorts of information do you keep?

Starting a Lyric Journal!

Starting a Lyric Journal!

I am starting a lyric journal.  Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of great music.  It has been a revelation discovering great music from artists I already love as well as revisiting a lot of music from my past.  I can say I’m not very much into the music of the present.  However, every now and again a new artist will come along with a gem that quickly becomes my new favorite.  Although a song with a good beat is great, I’ve always been more fascinated with words.  Words tell a much deeper story than a beat ever could.  Words can express so much like what one is going through, feeling, and best of all, words can be a salve and an inspiration to others.

Lyric Journal First Entry

It has only been recently that I’ve realized how much music means and has meant in my life.  I can listen to a particular song and call up a specific memory, even down to the smell smells. Whole albums remind me of specific periods of my life, bringing back fond memories or reminding of me of things I needed to work through or people I needed to forget.  Regardless, I’ve decided to start chronicling some of my favorite lyrics.  It will give me the chance to both practice my art or memory keeping and keep a log of some of my favorite lyrics by some of my favorite artists.  Below you can find the first two episodes of my lyric journaling.

I’d love to know who some of your favorite artists are and the lyrics that inspire or move you!  Below find my Lyric Journaling playlist and the first two episodes.
